The Leeds Rifles are the 1/7 and 1/8 Battalions of The West Yorks Regiment (Prince of Wales Own). My Great Uncle was KIA 17/11/17 near Passchendaele on the Anzac Ridge and I have just found out that his best friend was Elliot Blades who was badly injured at the same time and died of his wounds three days later. I knew nothing about Elliot until today but now want to find out what I can about him. Any information will be appreciated. Sue

sugerand Posted 27 March , 2006 Share Posted 27 March , 2006 Hello Born escombe, durham and lived/enlisted Ferryhill, Durham link for the war graves commission is http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults.a...nd.x=0&send.y=0 Ian Thank you for this. I had found the info on the CWGC but did not know he enlisted at Durham. I can only think that he was transferred to the Leeds Rifles at a later date, this might explain his unusual regimental number. The Battalion suffered heavy losses throughout 1916 so would need to reinforce. Thanks again. Sue
