tracy21020 Posted 25 March , 2006 Share Posted 25 March , 2006 Hello, hope you can give me some advice. I have got my Grandfather's MIC for a Miliitary Medal but cannot find it in the gazette. For the date of gazette it just says no. 59 and the registered paper is 68/121/783. There are not any dates on it. The only other thing it says is Salonica. Also is there anyway of finding out what he received this for? I have been to the NA and could not find his service papers. Thank you Tracy
Terry_Reeves Posted 25 March , 2006 Share Posted 25 March , 2006 Tracy MM citations do not exist unfortunately. Another approach is to check out the local newspapers where he lived and see if there was a story published about him. Terry Reeves

tracy21020 Posted 26 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 26 March , 2006 Thank you both for your help. I will try to find out about local papers. Steve, thank you for the link to the gazette. I couldn't find it. Would you be able to tell me what the following means on the entry '20th Hy. By. (Ravensthorpe)'? Thanks again Tracy
Terry_Reeves Posted 26 March , 2006 Share Posted 26 March , 2006 Tracy 20 Heavy Battery RGA was his unit. Ravensthorpe was his home town or at least the place he was living when he enlisted. Terry Reeves

tracy21020 Posted 26 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 26 March , 2006 Thanks again for the information. Gives me a bit more to go on. The Ravensthorpe that he is from is in Yorkshire near Dewsbury. From family information he was in the army until January 1921 and was still in the reserves in 1925. I think I remember reading somewhere that if they were in the army after 1921 that their records are not at the NA. Is this right and if so where can I find them?
