Stephen Barker Posted 21 March , 2006 Share Posted 21 March , 2006 Does anyone know what this line was on the Pozieres battlefield? It's included in the East lancs History. page 422. Thanks for any help. Stephen
Papineau Posted 21 March , 2006 Share Posted 21 March , 2006 It must be a mistake as there is no such place on the Somme.
Christina Holstein Posted 21 March , 2006 Share Posted 21 March , 2006 Does anyone know what this line was on the Pozieres battlefield? It's included in the East lancs History. page 422. Thanks for any help. Stephen Sorry, never heard of it. Lizieres is NE of Oradour sur Glane & that's 400+ miles away!
Stephen Barker Posted 21 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 March , 2006 It's mentioned in the war diary too! Anyone shed any light on this mystery? Stephen
Papineau Posted 21 March , 2006 Share Posted 21 March , 2006 As mentioned above, there is no such place on the Somme. If it is in a War Diary, the officer who wrote must have mis-read his map. And if it is in the Regimental History, then the compiler must have read the diary and just compounded the error.
Stephen Barker Posted 26 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 26 March , 2006 Because it was written 'Pozieres-Lizieres line' I had presumed it was being used as a proper noun. Of course it was not! It meant the edge of the Pozieres orchards - Lisiere = the edge of a wood or forest! Thanks for your thoughts. Stephen
