Walter Henry Hood, of Nuneaton Warwickshire, received serious woulds whilst fighting in India. We beleived in the Great war. (He was my Great Grandfather.)

However, I find no medal records for him in WW1. Nor do I know his regiment.

Are there members of the forum who have researched individuals or British regiments serving in India prior to this date or can advise me?

Your assitance is appreciated.

There were many Campaigns in India prior to & post WW1,some of which were marked by a Campaign Medal.

in the first 3rd of 20th Century there were the:

India General Service Medal 1895~Ed VII Effigy NWF 1901~02

India General Service Medal 1908~Ed VII Effigy NWF 1908.

India General Service Medal 1908~Geo V Effigy With various Clasps from Abor 1911 to NWF 1935.

Recipients of these can be researched by seeking the appropriate Medal roll @ the NA.

However, there are a number of "Walter Hood" &"W H Hood" on the NA MiC it is possible that his second name wasnt included,or just his initials given;I suspect he may be one of those????

Thank you for this information Sir.

The NA seems to list the 1914-18 medals.

Do you know, is there a section which covers the post 14-18 era?

Pity DOBs are not on the documents in the medal register, it would make things much easier.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks

David

The Prewar IGS Rolls are not online they have to be researched @ the NA in person or through a researcher.{However,WW1 period IGS may well be anotated on a MiC{eg NWF~Afghanistan 1919;etc:}The later ones are probably not yet released.
