Soldiers Died Information Please.

I have just come across this man for the first time in the local paper for 1917. Why he is not on the local memorial when his brother’s name is up there I cannot imagine. I would appreciate place of birth, residence and enlistment, whether kia or dow, and any supplementary information, if available. He is:

James William Cartwright, Private (40761), 2nd 5th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment.

Date of Death: 23/09/1917

Lived at New Mill, near Holmfirth / Huddersfield.

Thank you,

Tony.

Hi Tony,

Place of birth is not given but enlistment is Huddersfield and residence is New Mill, Yorks. Cause of death is KiA. Nothing else.

Many thanks for that, it all fits nicely. Strange that he is not on the memorial, but maybe I will find a more detailed newspaper report later.

Thanks again,

Tony.
