awakefield Posted 18 March , 2006 Share Posted 18 March , 2006 Do any forum members know the UK locations of units and the HQ of the 2/1st Eastern Mounted Brigade around Christmas 1914. Any help much appreciated. ALAN
Graham Stewart Posted 18 March , 2006 Share Posted 18 March , 2006 Alan, Units allotted to this Bde began forming at their Depots in late 1914, although the 2/1st(Notts & Derby)Mounted Bde, didn't form until January 1915, as there was a shortage of horses and rifles which delayed the formation of the Bde. Manpower didn't seem to be an issue and each unit had between 410 & 498 men, but one unit alone only had 5 horses, while another only had 30 rifles. The 2/1st Mounted Bde formed part of the 2/2nd Mounted Division, which again didn't begin forming until March 1915. So the short answer to your question is the 2/1st Mounted Bde didn't exist in December 1914. Graham.
awakefield Posted 20 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 20 March , 2006 Graham Thanks for your answer. Looks as if I've got another photo caption to correct at work (IWM Photo Archive) when I get a chance!!! ALAN
