Company punishment

It's my understanding that during World War One, a British soldier

who had committed a minor crime was sometimes tied by his wrists to

an artillery wheel. Was this a company punishment or did it also

apply at the battalion level? How long was he left there? I'll be

most grateful to anyone who can answer these questions. :)

Please use "SEARCH" for

Field Punishment, or

Field Punishment No. 1, or

Field Punishment No. 2.

All you need and more.

However, in answer to the Company aspect: a company commander was only allowed to punish for minor transgressions and certainly could not award FP1 or FP2. All other crimes, and all crimes where the soldier was unwilling [he had a right] to accept company justice, went to CO, and risked the wrath of God. Similarly, some even more heinous crimes went to a Court Martial, and, again, the soldier could opt for that in all cases.
