Guest newworldmember Posted 17 March , 2006 Share Posted 17 March , 2006 It's my understanding that during World War One, a British soldier who had committed a minor crime was sometimes tied by his wrists to an artillery wheel. Was this a company punishment or did it also apply at the battalion level? How long was he left there? I'll be most grateful to anyone who can answer these questions. Muerrisch Posted 17 March , 2006 Share Posted 17 March , 2006 Please use "SEARCH" for Field Punishment, or Field Punishment No. 1, or Field Punishment No. 2. All you need and more. However, in answer to the Company aspect: a company commander was only allowed to punish for minor transgressions and certainly could not award FP1 or FP2. All other crimes, and all crimes where the soldier was unwilling [he had a right] to accept company justice, went to CO, and risked the wrath of God. Similarly, some even more heinous crimes went to a Court Martial, and, again, the soldier could opt for that in all cases.
