Sgts Connell and Cockroft

This photograph is reputedly of J P Connell and H Cockroft. It was taken in Gustrow in May 1918. The seated guy has a medal ribbon which looks like an albert medal ribbon. The only H Cockroft I can find on the MIC is 16/1185 of the 16th West Yorkshire but only one card found so if it is an Allbert Medal then it presumably must be Connell seated? Can anyone help with identification?

The more I look at the medal ribbon the more I am convinced that it is not an Albert Medal, the centre stripe looks the same width as the two next to it. If the two stripes at the edges were a trick of the light then it could be a DCM. There is a candidate for a DCM in 6667 John connell, E Lanc R. Does anyone know if this Connell was a PoW and if he had a second christian name beginning with P? The E Lanc R does not look too good as he gives his address as 43 Catherine Street, Rochester, Kent.
