Royal Army Service Corps, date of enlistment

Recommended Posts

Private George Alfred Barlow, latterly of the Machine Gun Corps, but originally enlisted in the RASC and given the service number M/335130 - would anyone be able to glean from his number the approximate date he may have been enlisted/conscripted? Is the prefix 'M' significant?

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Kev

"M" signifies he was a mechanical transport (ie truck or ambulance vehicle). As there is there is no figure immediately after the "M" and before the "/", he must have enlisted after 20 November 1916.
