You may be interested to know that G/17472 Pte GH Wood of the Buffs deserted on 19/8/1918 and was still in a state of desertion in May 1920. Consequently he wasn't issued with any medals.

He had previously been 279249 in the 2/4 Londons

Also, the Buffs didn't have 'Royal' in their title until the 1930's

Hello Mick

Thankyou very much, this gives me another avenue to research.

I'm actually trying to do some research on behalf of my dad & uncle who

are both unable to make use of web resources !

I naively thought it might be pretty straight forward until I discovered that unless

the soldier in question was in a guards reg. or an officer they didn't count !!

Is there by chance a 'keeper of records' that pehaps my father could make

contact with ? (using more traditional methods of communications )

Kind regards

Tim Wood

Now of Norfolk but formaly of East Kent

They all counted but some Regiments/Corps are easier to research than others due to their methods of storage over the years. If you send me an email via the forum I'll reply with my home address for snail mail

Hello Mick

My e-mail is : timwood@placeuk.com

After your last mail I checked what I could find on the 'Police Gazette' from 1921

but no listing of a George Wood. We think he may have been taken as POW @

St Quentin during 1918 but could not find him under the 'Buffs' POW records either ?

I remember the stories as a child, that grandad was a "bit of a character" but don't

think many kids of 18 years age in today's world would be able to deal with what he

must have experienced !!

regards

Tim Wood
