Colin P Posted 12 March , 2006 Share Posted 12 March , 2006 I'm presently trying to research about my grandfather (French submariner) & great uncle (French Infantry) & other relatives who fought in the Great War. But then a thought struck me - perhaps I should try to find out a bit more about my Dad's exploits in the Second World War particularly as I'm a result of the liberating British Army on its way to Germany (my mother is from Belgium). When my Dad was alive & we went on holidays to visit family in Belgium he would tell us stories but I was a bit too young to remember much. He was a sergeant in the RASC and had responsibility for ensuring that the tanks were fuelled with petrol. Any ideas how I could get some more information? Ok I know this is not a request for info about the Great War but I'd be really grateful for any help. Thanking you in anticipation Colin P
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 12 March , 2006 Share Posted 12 March , 2006 You should as NoK be able to accquire his RASC Service Record from the Army Records Office Address etc; in the Long Long Trail @ head of Forum.
cockney tone Posted 14 March , 2006 Share Posted 14 March , 2006 Colin, as Harry states as his next of kin you can apply for a copy of his service record, but there is a small fee (think about £25 which will not affect your pension!!!!) and it took several months to come through. I recently got details of my father's Royal Artillery service, however they did not actually send me a photocopy of the record as I expected but simply a list of where he was attached and when. Good luck with your research, Regards, Scottie.
