In a word ~ Yes!

If the soldier was discharged & then later died as a Result of War Related Injuries/Illness within the acceptable time frame he [or rather his NoK] would get both!

I have one or two examples in my Collection & from my Researches.

Bugler F.Hearnden RHA/RFA was Discharged in 1918 & died in 1921

Pte Richard Evans 2nd Essex Rgt/Labour Corps;Discharged 1916 died 1918.

Corpl J.E.Payne 1/1st Camb.Rgt,discharged 1916 died 1918

However in the case of these items it is not backed by any research, which states it is actually His,there is also a War Service Badge 1915,which is unlikely to be his either??It would be reasonably easy to check from the SWB Number, but if he died O/S he is unlikely to have needed to apply for the SWB.

Modern "Framed" lots are rarely what they purport to be......

More a case of "Oooh that looks nice in there with those"

I know of a "Collector" who trawls the local Peterboro' Card & Book Dealers P/C trays for suitable Soldiers Pics to add into medal groups that he then returns to the dealer to sell as pukka!

I can imagine that it might happen if he died of wounds, but only after award of the SWB. But I can`t see how in this case, as he died of wounds in the theatre of war. (Buried Duhallow ADS cemetery). That being the case, one wonders about the other unattributable items - capbadge, photo, shellcase? Phil B
