dorrie Posted 10 March , 2006 Share Posted 10 March , 2006 I am somewhat confused (it doesnt take much). I am researching a soldier named George davison who according to the CWGC was in the 1st battalion Yorkshire reg. This is also backed up by the Retford times reporting his death of 6th Nov 1918. It states in the report that George Davison fought at Loos and the Somme. The Long Long Tail has the battlion in India for the duration. How can a battalion be in two places at once. dorrie Posted 10 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 10 March , 2006 Caryl No he is not a relation of mine I live in retford (originally Chester) and i am researching the names on the memorial in the Square and George davison is one of them. I am further confused as to the George Davison from Ryhope. It would appaer that he is too old for the George Davison I am looking at. There are two George Davisons indicated on the 1901 Census who are around the right age although the one from West Retford fits the bill better as Hospital road is in West retford, and also Arthur Davison and Walter Davison Georges brothers appear on the Census as being born in Retford. So Where Ryhope fits in I do not know. even more confuse Dorrie
