bcerha Posted 9 March , 2006 Share Posted 9 March , 2006 I am trying to find the MIC for my Grandfather but seem to be having no luck on the NA website in getting it to recognise his name and initial. Any help or pointers gratefully recieved Regards and thanks David
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 March , 2006 Share Posted 9 March , 2006 Navy Index Cards are @ the NA not online though, unlike the Army MiCs they only confirm the Medal issue, giving little if any other information. The RN Service papers are online & a much better alternative Medals are sometime noted in the Awards section on the Service Sheet. per ardua per mare per terram Posted 3 May , 2006 Share Posted 3 May , 2006 This is why there were no Naval MICs, they didn't need them! They used medal rolls only (as the army did for other medal issues) written in alphabetical order, no A Man in one place A A man in another. If cross refrancing was needed it was written on the roll. One set of rolls for the entire Navy, another for RNR, another for RNVR not each ship. It's only because there is such little information for the army that MICs become so important, with service registers available, for the RN online you get far more for your download fee in them too! per ardua per mare per terram Posted 3 May , 2006 Share Posted 3 May , 2006 Oh and the exception, they had a separate 1914 Star roll, but 14 St or Star also appears on the overall roll. This is the most detailed giving the date when the medal (and clasp if claimed) was issued. Btw 'C' here stands for "checked" just to keep us on our toes!
