Figure sketches for new painting

Thought I might give you all a peek at some of the figure sketches I've done for a painting I'm currently working on. The chap sitting on the ground holding the broken propeller blade is a self portrait.

Is your avatar one of your own works, too, Russell?

Lovely website, by the way.

It sure is. I did that piece last year, in fact. It is a pencil portrait done from a famous photo of Lt. d r Josef Mai of Jasta 5.

Thanks for the compliment on the website.

Here is the full drawing of Mai.

Excellent drawings!

However, if I could be just a little critical/questioning, I wonder if the rifles in drawings Nos 1 and 4 might need some amendment. The rifle in No 1 doesn't appear to have the sturdy wood structure up to the muzzle that characterised the SMLE Mk III (it looks more like a WWII Mk IV), while the SMLE in No 4 looks to be too short.

As they say, there's no point in being a nit if you don't pick!

Regards

Point taken. Yes, the rifles look much better in the in the full sketch.

Oh yes! I do this for a living so you can bet that I'll be posting new images, and maybe even some old ones, from time to time.

Thanks so much to everyone for your great compliments.
