Guest Alan Fox Posted 4 March , 2006 Share Posted 4 March , 2006 I am trying to find out more about my grandfather’s service in the Great War. His name was Arthur Fox. I know that he served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in the Middle East. I have seen a photograph of him - arm in a sling - outside a hospital in Egypt. The only details I have are as follows:- Private Royal Welsh Fusiliers 3767 Private Labour Corps 360435 Any info about the role of the Royal Welsh in Egypt/Palestine/Mesopatamia and how to obtain more detailed info about my grandfather's service e.g. which battalion etc gratefully received. Many thanks.
Muerrisch Posted 5 March , 2006 Share Posted 5 March , 2006 I'll see what I can do later today. At first glance at his number, he might well have been TF, enlisted pre-war.
Muerrisch Posted 5 March , 2006 Share Posted 5 March , 2006 These are the RWF battalions that served in Middle East: not necessarily Egypt, because an hospitalised man could have been sent to Egypt: 1/5 TF, 1/6 TF, 1/7 TF, 8, 11. I favour 1/5, 1/6 or 1/7, because the original service number is suggestive of pre-war or August 1914 enlistment into these original battalions of the TF. I can think of no way of reducing the odds further except the obvious one of calling up his MiC from National Archive. Let me know how you get on.
