Good day to you all - I've just found this forum & it looks to be a very fine one.

There seems to be an excellent knowledge base here & I'm looking forward to

reading & hopefully being able to add a thing or two.

Thanks

welcome to the forum junkies. Print off the following advice and give it to your wife before starting. Take a rhubarb purgative followed by the application of a cold lotion to the shaved head,or, sit on a caned bottomed chair while the fumes of calomel burn on a spirit burner underneath for twenty minutes until absorbed. Thereafter no wine or spirits allowed, wear flannel and go to bed early.

abridged from Denis Winter's book, death's men. I've tried it and it works !

Uncle Bill - just up north from you in Nantes. I've been living in France since 1991 (apart from a year in Ireland & 6 months in Holland).

How long have you been there ?

uncle bill : to tell the truth - hunger ;) - I was in Holland & had no money & I was listening to a Radio 4 documentary on food & the presenters were doing a tour of the markets & I could almost smell the food. So I decided to see for myself. Packed up my bag & stuck my thumb out, had 3 guilders (equiv of 9 french francs at the time) - which bought me a few beeers & some chips & then went.

I don't regret it one minute.

So how about you ?

:)

I came over to be a full time racing cyclist, needless to say I didn't reach the same standard as Lance Armstrong.

Ink ... Unkie Bill,

Y'all don't live very far from where my folks have a house, in the Vendee right in between Nantes and Niort (Niort, Niort, so good they named it twice!)

Only visited Limoge once, after spending the day at Orador Sur Glan and didn't like it very much - but I think that was more to do with the fact that it was ripo snortingly hot and I was on the back of Hubbies motorbike, dressed in full road warrior combat gear - I was hot, tired and crankey!

Have never managed to make a visit to Nantes yet as every time I visit my parents house it as a member of a work party to do renovations :(

I will have to make a point of going there :)

Bill, I was out at the house in mid July and it was scorching!

We spent alot of time up at La Terrier on the coast.

Couldn't believe the temp of the water either - Air temp was some where around the 34/36 mark at about 5.30 in the evening ... .water temp ....... 26!!!

Fantastic!

Glad I wasn't out there for the really hot stuff, I think I'd have melted!

Feel sorry for all the poor elderly people who got caught out by it.

Hello to you all

My name is Dan and I would just like to introduce myself as a new Forum user.

A friend of mine (who is probably known to you as Brig Gen McHenry!!) introduced me to the site a while ago whilst I was in Belgium. I am now back in the UK and looking forward to being a regular user of all the knowledge that is on offer.

:unsure:Being a 'crab', I can't see pink trousers being part of my wardrobe. The way things are going I believe purple to be the new colour!

Dan (and others),

Those who doubt that pink was much used during the war need only look to much of the correspondence sent home to blighty which confirms its prevalence in the front line.

Dear (Whoever),

Hoping this finds you as it leaves me, in the pink.

etc. etc. etc.

I rest my case

Just a note to Fleur to recommend a visit to the WG site in Pornic on the coast just South of the Loire near to Nantes. This is a fascinating and moving site (I think WW2) but includes what appears to be a female jewish agent killed in February 1944! Also Pornic is a lovely little town - enjoy!
