Tom Morgan Posted 2 March , 2006 Share Posted 2 March , 2006 After several false starts, "Rats' Alley" is now actually published and being sent out to sellers who had advanced orders. I got mine today. It looks very good. Part 1 (225 pages) is a history and examination of Trench Naming, mainly considering British mathods but also mentioning French and German Practice. Part 2(189 pages) is a gazeteer of 10,000 trench-names with columns for the name, the map-sheet and the grid-reference on the British 1914-18 maps system. The book is very well bound, too. squirrel Posted 2 March , 2006 Share Posted 2 March , 2006 Is that the price for both volumes or are they published individually?
Papineau Posted 2 March , 2006 Share Posted 2 March , 2006 Good to hear it is out at last - I don't think it is in 2 volumes though; at least, I hope not!
Tom Morgan Posted 2 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 2 March , 2006 (edited) Squirrel and Papineau - no it's one book. I was just describing the two sections of it. Garth - some you win, some you lose. Sometimes I beat the Amazon price but I can't on this one. They must order two hundred copies at a time or something, which I can't do, of course. Mind you, they are quoting a delivery time of 4 to 6 weeks, and I'm sure they would have got their copies before me. Maybe they're waiting until they have 200 orders and THEN ordering 200 copies at a time. I don't know. No secret about my price - it's £22.50 which is the best I can do. My customers who ordered the book in advance will get their copies on Saturday, though. Tom I 'd like to add - I didn't mention the arrival of the book in order to drum up trade, but because I knew Pals have been looking forward to it, and I wanted to be first with the news! (All my copies are spoken for anyway.) Edited 2 March , 2006 by Tom Morgan
Papineau Posted 2 March , 2006 Share Posted 2 March , 2006 Thanks for clarifying that and for flagging it up; books are essential part of our study, and booksellers an equally essential means for us to get them... so I for one have no problems with you mentioning any book. It is nice to have immediate notice of new titles.
