Andrew Hesketh Posted 1 March , 2006 Share Posted 1 March , 2006 Thanks for letting us know Terry, and well done to those involved in making it happen. Terry, when asked recently if the raft of new commemorations was indicative of anything, you said it was pure coincidence. Is this still true? Is it normally like this? It just seems that there has been an awful lot of activity recently.

Terry Denham Posted 1 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 1 March , 2006 Andrew No, it is not normal. My reply was true at the time but things have moved on since. I explained in yesterday's 'In from the Cold' thread. No amendments have been made to the CWGC database since last July when they began installation of a major new office computer system. The database was kept frozen at 12.07.05 and all amendments/additions were stockpiled during the test period (remember that their system covers their daily work requirements as well as the Debt of Honour list). The amendments are now being input and so there appears to be a larger than normal number of new commemorations. In reality, these have been accepted by MoD/CWGC at some time between last July and today. It will continue for a short while but then revert to normal once they are all in the system. I have not repeated any names already listed as 'In from the Cold' on the Forum.

Greenwoodman Posted 4 March , 2006 Share Posted 4 March , 2006 Thanks Terry. I did try to obtain info on Samuel through the forum, but was unsuccessful. Just wondered if you had passed it on. AFAIK there is no official documentation - no MIC, no burnt/unburnt record, no death certificate. That plus the lack of number would have surely precluded acceptance by CWGC? Not that I'm complaining Terry, I'm delighted to see him there.
Terry Denham Posted 4 March , 2006 Author Share Posted 4 March , 2006 Richard Remember that CWGC do not say 'yes' or 'no' to new commemorations. They only act as the first filter - deciding whether the person could qualify (died within the appropriate qualifying period etc), whether they are already in the lists and whether sufficient info has been supplied to merit passing to MoD. It is MoD who decide for UK casualties if they qualify or not. There are a few entries without a service number and so this is not a unique case.
