There are 12 soldiers listed as East Lancs who died. Out of these there is:

Private Joseph Holt No 4757, born Colne, enlisted Burnley, 2nd battalion who died 9th May 1915 France/ Flanders

Private Edward Leonard Holt No 5920, born Burnley, enlisted Bacup, 1st Battalion who died 3rd March 1914

France/Flanders

There is no Ernest Holt listed in the East Lancs as having died.

I will do a wider check but are these the 2 men you are researching?

Further to above, there are 12 soldiers with first name Ernest who died. Of these the following may be of interest.

Born Bolton South Lancs Regiment died 28th Aug 1914

Born Bolton Loyal North Lancs died 13th Mar 1917

Born Whitworth Labour Corps formerly 49th Lancs Fusiliers died 22 Sep 1917

Born Rochdale Kings Royal Rifle Corps died 25th Aug 1916

Born Oldham Suffolk Regiment formerly Manchester Regiment died 9th May 1918

Let me know if any are the one and I can post further details as this is from SDGW CD
