kaisersoffensive Posted 27 February , 2006 Share Posted 27 February , 2006 Hello I wonder if any of you knowledgeable people on this site can provide me with any further information on the following items. I have a 1914 star trio and marching compass to Lieut A.H. Longley The star is named as 93 Pte A.H. Longley 5/ Lond.R Medal Index card gives the following information Arthur Harry Longley 9300 London Regiment,King’s Royal Rifle Corps,Jat Light Infantry The marching compass is named inside the case. My questions relating to this medal group are Why does the star only carry the digits 93? What was the Jat Light Infantry? How might I arrive at a connection (possible brother?) to Frank Arthur Longley 2nd Lt. 7th Bn London Reg,K.R.R.C attd 17th Bn.Aged 2o died 19/06/1917. Son of the late Arthur Gertrude Longley of Calcutta. I also have a 1914-15 star trio to 736 Pte. A.S. Tapsfield R.Fus. The M.I.C gives the No as K-736.What would the K stand for? Once again many thanks for all the help in the past. Regards, Bob Norman.
doogal Posted 27 February , 2006 Share Posted 27 February , 2006 What was the Jat Light Infantry? I believe it was part of the old East India Company's Army, and I presume it was part of the Indian Army by the time of the Great War. regards doogal
welshdoc Posted 27 February , 2006 Share Posted 27 February , 2006 JAT bengal light infantry. easy to find on any search engine. The number is probably a clerk error on the MIC. Your lucky as such a low number will have a premium. It may on the other hand be an error on the star, you can either try some crosschecking or as long as you tell the bidders the numbers dont match you should be fine. HAve you downloaded the MIC ? or are you reading the "free" front page. gareth

PhilB Posted 27 February , 2006 Share Posted 27 February , 2006 The 1915 Army List shows 2 Jat units. The 6th Jat Light Infantry, late 6th (Bengal) Light Infantry and the 10th Jats, late 10th Bengal Infantry. Yours is presumably the former.
