Ronald J. Jack Posted 25 February , 2006 Share Posted 25 February , 2006 A large number of French casualties were evacuated to London region in Autumn 1914, and parcelled out to hospitals. Many went to a RED CROSS hospital at Wembley. Given the urgency, everyone at hand, VADs, Red Cross, St.John Ambulance, etc, had a role in assisting the wounded. Can anyone ID the specific hospital inWembley, and quote figures for numbers involved? I am seeking as well, information on the women translators working with the RED CROSS in 1914, who worked with the wounded soldiers. Was there some sort of general call for linguists living in the greater Capital region? The IWM lists a pamphlet history called FRENCH HEROES AT THE MILITARY HOSPITAL (20 pages, London 1916) Can anyone tell me if this refers to the hospital at Wembley? And is it specific to the first few months of the war, 1914? Best wishes from Canada RJ Jack
