Remembered Today:

Medal card of Coe, A E and Coe, Archibald Edward

Hello - More help and advice needed please.

The MICs below are clearly for the same man from "My" village.

The first would seem to suggest that he has a DSO or MM.

The second that he was commisioned and also changed his Corp from RE to RGA.

Sadly I am unable to order the cards and any way they would not tell me why he was

awarded a gallantry medal.

Is anyone able to help with any information?

Thank you

Old Jack

He is not recorded in Walker's DCM Book so I expect he was awarded the Military Medal,or MiD,in which case there will be no Citation details in the London Gazette, just the Promulgation notice {ie his Name & Details Regt etc in a list of MM Winners,or those "Mentioned in Despatches"}It will however give you a Date to use in your search, the best avenue will be the Local paper for the area he lived in often they published press releases giving brief{& they are usually very brief} details of his award.

unfortunately MM Citations were rarely published or even entered into Service Records.just occassionally a War Diary might contain a recommendation.

His MM is announced in the London Gazette of 12th [14th] September 1916 Page 8999:~

Included in the list of names is:~

12340 2nd Corporal A.E.Coe RE.

If you enter "A. E. Coe"[note space after full stops]into the online LG search for WW1 he will show up as LG 12th September 1916

Hello HarryBettsMCDCM - Thank you for the invaluable information. I have been able to

download the LG.

I have read all of the local newspaper and found no mention of his MM. I might have missed

it of course.

I only found him in the first place by a report of his enlistment in the newspaper

as he is not recorded on the Roll of Duty and Honour in our village - which was the

starting point for my project. He will be now!

Thank you again

Old Jack
