Ciaran Byrne Posted 25 February , 2006 Share Posted 25 February , 2006 Is it safe to assume that D.S.O.s awarded at the begining of the year were awarded as part of the new years honours list? I have seen several without citations and can only assume that they were part of the new years honours list.
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 25 February , 2006 Share Posted 25 February , 2006 Before 1914 Citations were not as a rule published in the Gazette, occassionally a sentence was added to the Gazette entry. However during WW1 Many "Periodic" appointments to the Order were made which do not have Citations{sometimes details might be found in Unit / Formation Histories}Citations are often published seperately from the original Promulgation requiring a search of the LG indices. Post 1921 the majority of announcements of DSOs reverted to that of no Citations being published, save for RAF & RN. So I would hazard that though many of the NY & Birthday Honours DSOs won't have published Citations, neither will many others awarded for periodic appointments,as opposed to signal Acts of Gallantry & Distinguished Service.
