I am trying to fond battle details of my great great uncle Private Henry A Ormerod, service no 201553 who was killed? on 25/06/1917. served in East Lancashire Regiment 1st/4th Bn and is buried in Ruyaulcourt Military cemetery, Nr Pas de Calais France. Any information, especially which battle, would be useful

Steve

Information from Soldiers Died.

Private Henry A Ormerod

Born and Enlisted in Blackburn

Resident Darwen,Lancs

Died of Wounds 25/6/17

Go here http://www.1914-1918.net/eastlancs.htm on the main site for further information for his battalions location.

Having a quick read he would probably have received his wounds while in the lines at Epehy, probably by shell fire.

Regards Doug.

The fact that he died of wounds means that he didn`t necessarily get hit that day. However, the battalion was in that area at the time and he almost certainly would have received his wound that day or the day before. Otherwise he would have probably been further back. There was no major action at that time but there was a German barrage and an attack that was driven off. Phil B

Does that mean he died at Havrincourt ( or possibly Messines) do you think?

The regimental history isn`t too clear about exactly where they were day by day. Possibly an EL specialist might have access to the battalion diary? Phil B
