Julian Whippy Posted 24 February , 2006 Share Posted 24 February , 2006 If you are visiting the southern sector of the Somme any time soon, look out for these Funk holes which look as if they have recently come to light at the roadside. They are between Chipily and Cerisy roughly along the ANZAC and 58th London Division boundary for the 8th August 1918 attack. The holes were 4 feet deep and could at a squeeze fit 2 soldiers in. We saw them earlier this week on a walk around the area.
cockney tone Posted 24 February , 2006 Share Posted 24 February , 2006 Julian, really interesting seeing these coming to light after all those years, with the apparent lack of available accomdation for the forthcoming 1st July anniversary I could well end up in one of these, cheers, Scottie. ackimzey Posted 24 February , 2006 Share Posted 24 February , 2006 Thanks for the great picture. My great uncle Grover mentioned using a funk hole in his diary. Ann
