nfh249 Posted 21 February , 2006 Share Posted 21 February , 2006 Any suggestions as to what the phrase refering to a WO letter means? And would the letter be available in the NA?? Thanks Neil.
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 21 February , 2006 Share Posted 21 February , 2006 The Card looks to be a Card for a War Badge {SWB} The letter referred to looks to have been sent by the WO to the applicant,a check of the MGC288 SWB list quoted might help? PPCLI Posted 22 February , 2006 Share Posted 22 February , 2006 Any suggestions as to what the phrase refering to a WO letter means? And would the letter be available in the NA?? Hi Neil, It looks like he was not eligible for the SWB, so the WO sent him a letter stating as such. The letter will not be available at the NA, unless his service file can be found and the letter was included in any correspondence. If you locate the SWB roll (ref: MGC288), it will probably be filled out as for the other recipients, but his entry will be scored out with a red line and will probably be overwritten with "Letter sent". Perhaps still worth getting the page copied because the SWB entries give a reasonable bit of information, enlistment date, regiment (sometimes battalion), date of discharge, whether served overseas, reason for discharge (sickness, wounds, accident, overage), and sometimes even age at discharge. Hope this helps, Stuart
Graeme Heavey Posted 22 February , 2006 Share Posted 22 February , 2006 A WO letter is a War Office letter. They would appear to have written to him on 4th June 1918.
