Not being quite up to date on the MN research side of things can any pal tell me where I can find crew lists for British MN vessels.

The merchant Navy records can be very interesting and rewarding to search. I first went to the NRA, there are records ther which are called C.R.10 seamans records , they include photographs of the men although only microfilm copies.

Once you have seamans identity number you can get a colour photo done at Southampton archives where the origional records are kept. I now have some really first class photo's of my grandfather and his brothers by doing this. Also the southampton site may be useful for crew lists, although most of the origionals are now in Canada. Alternativly you can pay a researcher at Southampton. See the link below.

Put in CREW LISTS in Keyword (or phrase)

and Voila!

Southampton Archives Services: Crew lists and Ships' Agreements 1863-1913 912 hit(s)
