Returned Medals

Can any pal explain the following reference to KR's:

Rtd (992-KR-1923)8362/

I am presuming that the Rtd means returned but I don't know what the 992 means or the 8362.

If the medals were returned could the next of kin still claim them??

thanks for your link, but the medals I am concerned with have a different Kings Regulation quoted and it is one that I haven't come across before.

KR's para 992 (1923):

"Medals which, at the end of 1 year, remain unclaimed will be sent to the Secretary, War Office."

many thanks, that explains why we haven't been able to find them, although the guy that I am helping has found some letters from the time the soldier died, one from the Padre and one from another soldier. Hopefully he'll bring them in to show me at work on Monday.
