ijrowley Posted 20 February , 2006 Share Posted 20 February , 2006 Hi All I wonder if anyone can give advise on how to reserach the above soldier. I have his MIC and medals and know that he served in France , where is it possible to find out which battalion etc that he was with so that i can pinpoint him down more . I know he was initially a volunteer as he initially had one service number of 4 digits and was later issued with another longer number . Any advise please either on this site or e mail me at ij_rowley@btinternet.com . Regards Ian
John_Hartley Posted 20 February , 2006 Share Posted 20 February , 2006 Ian Welcome to the Forum Clicking on the link to the Long LongTrail (top left of the page) will give you all the information you need (look for the "research" section). The 4 digit number measn he could have been a pre-war regular sodlier, but it is more likely that he was in a Territorial batalion (they were renumbered with 6 digit number in early 1917). If you enter "territorial force" into the LLT search box, you should find an article about this renumbering. You should be able to link his 6 digit number to a Battalion. Ken Lees Posted 20 February , 2006 Share Posted 20 February , 2006 Ian, Care to tell us who he was and what service number you have for him? What does his MIC tell you? Ken
