pud2006 Posted 20 February , 2006 Share Posted 20 February , 2006 Does anyone have any specific information about the location, movements and actions of the 23rd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps (23rd Division, XIV Corps, Tenth Army) in Italy in 1918 up to the Piave Crossing over Papadopoli Island in late October? pud2006 Posted 21 February , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 February , 2006 Hi Steven, Thanks for your offer. My interest relates to my wife's great-uncle, Private Alexander Wright of the 23rd Battalion MGC, Service No. 72706, who was KIA on 27th October 1918 and is buried in Tezze British Cemetery, Italy. He had been on active service since mid-1916 and wounded a couple of times in other units (not MGC) - he had been sent to a different unit each time after recovering. He ended up in a machine gun team in 1917 and was transferred to Italy with the 23rd Division. I have general infomation about British operations in Italy, but not about the use/deployment of machine gun teams in particular, and I'd appreciate receiving any relevant information you have to hand. I have requested a copy of the War Diary of the 23rd Battalion MGC for October 1918 in the hope of finding out about its activities leading up to the crossing of the Piave, but don't I know how useful this will be as yet.
