Dear All,

Trying to find what battles my Grandfather was involved in during WW1

He was with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and his name was Private Roland Roberts number 200113.

Hope you can help.

Hello Paul and welcome to the Forum. The RWF had a large number of battalions, each of which followed a different path and took part in different actions. Do you know his battalion? His number suggests 1/4th?

He is in the national Archives but his name appears as Rolant, Ive never seen this spelling before either.

He was in one of the Battalions from North Wales, Coedpoeth or Wrexham

Enclosed are his details :-

Royal Welsh Fusiliers 200113 Private

Date 1914-1920

Catalogue reference WO 372/17

Would like to find out were he was during WW1.

Re Rolant being mis-spelt.I believe that Rolant is the colloqual welsh for Rowland. ( same as Dafydd for David, Sion for John, Wmffra for Humphrey etc )

Heard it often and seen it on various'old' books/documents.
