Hambo Posted 19 February , 2006 Share Posted 19 February , 2006 Morning! I have seen others try this with some good results so I thought I'd give it a try I have found the vast majority of men on my local memorial and got a good picture of most of them. I do have a number of names which have drawn a complete blank and wondered if I'm missing a trick or two of how to get that elusive first lead. I have SDGW so have tried that. All I have is the names, no idea who they served with or indeed which country they served for (I have one Canadian private). What's frustrating is that one or two have quite unusual names Here goes William Baker William Baggley William Baldwin Alfred Brown Alfred Winter Evans (pretty certain Winter is the middle name as there are a lot of Winters locally) Frederick Head Richard Roche The connection is Limpsfield in Surrey but Edenbridge in Kent or Oxted/Tandridge is also a possibility Real Sunday afternoon stuff in case you didn't fancy the Chelsea match on telly Thanks Hambo

Hambo Hambo, not really much time, but yes lateral thinking. Sorry cannot help with Alfred Brown, over 120 of 'em! Found 42 men connected to Limpsfield, including Lt. Cather a 1st July 1916 VC, whom I presume must be on your memorial? Cheers,
Hambo Posted 19 February , 2006 Author Share Posted 19 February , 2006 There are 61 names on three memorials in the village. Some names are on all three some are on one. I have 70 all together as I have found 9 who are not on it and perhaps should be. Thanks for looking for Brown I imagined he'd be the really tough one, surprised about Baggley though. I've tried the census and no luck Thanks for the help Hambo
Guest geoff501 Posted 19 February , 2006 Share Posted 19 February , 2006 surprised about Baggley though. Only half a dozen but none William. However there are a few Williams spelt BAGGOLEY, BAGGULEY, BAGULEY, BAGGARLEY and the more usual BAGLEY. (there is even a spelling variation for one name between CWGC and the overseas death index). Good Luck!
