uncle bill Posted 18 February , 2006 Share Posted 18 February , 2006 I bought this photo from French ebay, sadly the seller had decided to take all of the photos from an album and sell them individually. The caption on the album read " Billy Montigny , Englander V. Notts and Derby Btl. 46 Terr. Div. gefangen 25/3/1916. Can anyone tell me how or in what action these men were taken prisoner. Billy Montigny is just behind Lens.
Marty Posted 18 February , 2006 Share Posted 18 February , 2006 My guess would be the 24th Bavarian IR from the 1st Bavarian Division. The men could have been taken in a German trench raid or possibly taken prsioner during a British undertaking. Hopefully someone will have the battalion or regimental accounts that could shed some light on this period. This regiment was stationed north of Arras in the Neuville-Souchez Sector at this time and Billy Montigny is along this line as well.
