I bought this photo from French ebay, sadly the seller had decided to take all of the photos from an album and sell them individually. The caption on the album read " Billy Montigny , Englander V. Notts and Derby Btl. 46 Terr. Div. gefangen 25/3/1916. Can anyone tell me how or in what action these men were taken prisoner. Billy Montigny is just behind Lens.

My guess would be the 24th Bavarian IR from the 1st Bavarian Division. The men could have been taken in a German trench raid or possibly taken prsioner during a British undertaking. Hopefully someone will have the battalion or regimental accounts that could shed some light on this period.

This regiment was stationed north of Arras in the Neuville-Souchez Sector at this time and Billy Montigny is along this line as well.
