Hi

Can a North Staffs expert please help me out?

What was the Regiment doing in 1918? and would anyone know of a date when they would have got an influx of 30+ ranks from the Liverpool Regiment maybe as BCRs after an action.

Thank you

Ady

Hello Ady,

As you can see at the North Staffordshire Regiment's page, the regiment boasted quite a few battalions at various locations.

Transfers from other regiments was quite common during the German offensive of spring 1918, I stand to be corrected. So perhaps you can narrow your query down to a single battalion of theater?

I hope this helps a little.

Cheers,

The German Spring Offensive commenced in their sector ( Bullecourt) on the 21/3/18. The Battalion were completely cut off losing approx 586 casualties. Afterwards 120 ranks were transferred from Div Wing Reinforcement Camp. Another draft of 600 men was taken on establishment on the 3rd April whilst the Battalion was at Proven.

Thank Roop

Was the Div Reinforcement camp all different cap badges or would these have been specifically North Staffs guys kept back to reform units if catastrophic casualties occurred?

These dates would fit in as my man wouldve just turned 18 around early 1918 .He was most likely in the April draft.

They would be all regiments of the Division.

25th Batt. King's (Liverpool) joined the 176th Brigade in June 1918 so this may be where your men arrived from.
