pud2006 Posted 17 February , 2006 Share Posted 17 February , 2006 Would anyone be able to tell me whether transfers of Other Ranks from the RFA to the RGA were common, or did RFA personnel tend to stay within the RFA, with new recruits/conscripts being used to form additional RGA units? I'm interested because I'm trying to find out more about a Gunner who started out in the RFA (probably in 1916, unit unknown) but ended up in the 221sb RGA (KIA in 1917). I have his RFA and RGA Service Nos., but unfortunately his Service Records have not survived. Thanks Paul
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 17 February , 2006 Share Posted 17 February , 2006 You do see RFA to RGA on many MiC,so I would say it is not that uncommon to switch between Branches of the RA.
KONDOA Posted 17 February , 2006 Share Posted 17 February , 2006 RFA Batteries/ Brigades were re-organised int he autumn of 1916 resulting in many ranks being transferred to RGA or in some cases Trench Mortar Units. It is very common. Roop
