Folks,

My farther whom is now 80 (and himself a veteran of WW2) has for some reason started telling me things I never knew regarding his farther who was in WW1

His farther was he thinks in the Warwickshire Yeomanry who served in Gallipoli. His farther only ever remembered this and one other fact, which was that he was once at Sandringham and pulled a stone out of then Price George's shoe and was given a crown by the soon to become king. This implies he must have been in the regular Army before WW1.

The reason he can only remember this is that he was returned by the Germans at the end of the war, with no memory of his identity, having been named aptly George Smith by the German Medics. We surmise he was picked up by Germans on the battlefield after fighting the Turks.

He has a Birmingham accent and was therefore returned to the midlands, but eventually after attempting to find his identity he settled down with my Grandmother and only ever had the odd flash back from his past.

I would dearly like to try and identify his true identity on my father's behalf.

Your site indicated that 15 men only from this regiment were killed during the Gallipoli campaign.

Please can anyone advise me who I might get the identity of these casualties or a list of those sent to Gallipoli.

Best regards Andrew (Smith?)

Try the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in Warwick. The guys that run the museum are really helpful and they have loads of photos and info regarding the battalion in WW1. Plus rolls of men who served.

Cheers

Terry
