Moonraker Posted 14 February , 2006 Share Posted 14 February , 2006 Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon published poetry in The Hydra magazine while at Craiglockhart War Hospital, but three 1918 editions of the magazine produced are missing. Owen began editing The Hydra, the hospital’s journal, shortly after arriving in June 1917. With a print-run of no more than 200 and a cover price of sixpence, it was published fortnightly from April to September 1917, after which a series of monthly magazines appeared from November. The most complete collection of the magazine is held at Oxford University. It goes up to July 1918, nine months after Owen left Craiglockhart, but there is a gap between February and April 1918, where issues 4, 5 and 6 of the second series should be. It's possible that Owen submitted work to The Hydra in 1918 Owen’s first two published poems — Song of Songs and The Next War — appeared during his editorship, during which two new poems by Sassoon, Dreamers and Wirers, also appeared. Napier University, Edinburgh, is looking for the missing three editions as part of an attempt to acquire an original set of its own.
