armourersergeant Posted 10 September , 2003 Share Posted 10 September , 2003 I have just read an account of a officer earning the VC around the early 1900's and was wondering(though i think i know this answer) if a pal could just qualify for me that Indain soldiers would also have been entitled to the award. Its just that certain officers were awarded the medal but the poor Sikh soldiers also present do not appear to have got one. It seems a bit unfair. I am not taking away from the British officers who earned theirs just thinking that the soldiers should have been equally rewarded. comments? Arm. CROONAERT Posted 10 September , 2003 Share Posted 10 September , 2003 Indian (native) troops weren't eligible for the award of the VC until 1912. Previous to this (and after, depending on the circumstances) they were eligible to receive one of the classes of the Indian Order of Merit. Dave.
