Guest Nev Posted 11 February , 2006 Share Posted 11 February , 2006 Trying to find any information on John Slater from Radcliffe nr Bury in Lancashire. His Medal card shows he was in the Loyal North Lancs Regiment (37312) and subsequently the Lancashire Fusiliers. (18599). Would anyone be able to tell me anything else from the card and medal roll number etc. Other than what's obvious. I'm a bit new to this and would appreciate advice. Thanks In Advance Nev

Stebie9173 Posted 18 February , 2006 Share Posted 18 February , 2006 I think that he was in the Lancashire Fusiliers first (the "X" denotes the Regiment to go onto the medals - the first that he served overseas with). The North Lancashire Regiment seems to be the Regiment he was discharged from. The card is an SWB card with the medal entitlement added on afterwards to keep everything together. I cannot tell which battalions he was with from the number. Sorry. You will need to check the medal rolls at the National Archives at Kew. The SWB Rolls should give the unit discharged from in addition to the info on the card. The List reference is for that medal roll. Discharge will be under Kings Regulations 392, xvi (no longer fit for service - wounds) Pretty similar to Junior's man, in fact. Steve.
