Hi I have found a man that could be my great grandfather,

His name is John J Davis he was in the 23rd (county of London) Battalion, his number was 700293. He died 16th September 1916.

I'm after his date of birth & if anyone know if his middle name was James

Thanks

James

James,

Both Soldiers Died and CWGC show him as just John Davis.

Born and resident of Wandsworth - enlisted Clapham Junction.

Son of John James and Charlotte Davis, of 1, Church Passage, High St., Wandsworth, London.

Have a look at the 1901 census or either Free BMD or 1837 online for birth registration.

Max,

That coincides with the CWGC next of kin info.

James, I think you nearly have your answer! You should be able to get to his birth certificate now.
