Guest mike blackmore Posted 9 February , 2006 Share Posted 9 February , 2006 My maternal grandfather Charles Victor Mitchell was wounded during this battle, but in all the accounts of the battle I have read no mention is made of THE DUKE OF CORNWALLS LIGHT INFANTRY in which he served. Can anyone enlighten me please?
Papineau Posted 9 February , 2006 Share Posted 9 February , 2006 The 6th Battalion DCLI, part of the 14th (Light) Division fought at Delville Wood in August 1916. They lost over 360 men in the period 18th-20th August, when they took part in the fighting for Hop Alley and Edge Trench in the wood. There are many unknown DCLIs buried in Delville Wood cemetery. Hope that helps.
