It seems the death of the father may have ensured the life of his son.

Robert Garrick Jnr appears to have enlisted at the same time as his father (age 19) - and after the death of his father he requested to be discharged for 'urgent family reasons'. Due to his short service, probably also his age & circumstances - his request was granted, and he returned home. He was still living in 1967. I'm sure his father would have wished it this way.

Lest we forget.
