Ken Devitt Posted 8 February , 2006 Share Posted 8 February , 2006 I tried this on "soldiers" without any luck, so in hope I will give it a go here. I am most curious to know what the "Special List" was and why there was no number attached to the individual who was part of the list. Come on guys inform a most uniformed man. Graham Stewart Posted 8 February , 2006 Share Posted 8 February , 2006 Ken, I'm curious myself, as I know of the "General List", which was a pool of officers who on commissioning had no preference as to which regiment/corps they went to, and so were sent wherever needed. The "Special List" doesn't ring a bell at all, and apart from the Special Reserve and Special Brigades, I can honestly say I've never heard of it. Where and to what does this "Special List" refer in relation to soldiers?? Graham.
Ken Devitt Posted 8 February , 2006 Author Share Posted 8 February , 2006 Thanks for the response Graham, The MIC of Count Robert Marie Gaspard O'Gorman has him listed as Lieut. Special List. No number, and nothing else. Hence my curiosity. From the response up to now I somehow thought that it was obvious what the special list was but obviously, not so. I thought perhaps that they were some sort of secret service behind enemy lines. Regards, ken
Sparky53 Posted 8 February , 2006 Share Posted 8 February , 2006 I think it refers to former Warrant Officers now commissioned Jane
Captain Dave Posted 9 February , 2006 Share Posted 9 February , 2006 Does the special list apply to specialist officers, such as dentists, doctors, lawyers etc? I know that's what it refers to nowdays!

Graham Stewart Posted 9 February , 2006 Share Posted 9 February , 2006 Ken, Have gone over this question in my mind for the last few days and wonder if the Special List was for those officers seconded to the Secret Services during the Great War??
