Remembered Today:

Blairville Raid 28/6/16

I have recently been looking at the possibility of running adult battlefield tours with a specific Lancashire Fusiliers theme. I've come up with a few ideas, but yesterday a friend mentioned the possibility of visiting the site of the Blairville raid by 2/5th LF on 28th June 1916. During the raid Private J. Hutchinson won the VC. He allegedly went into a 'battle fury' after his brother was killed. Virtually all the participants in the raid were men from the Bury/Heywood area. I must admit that I've never researched this raid hitherto. Has anyone visited the vicinity?
