On the War Memorial I am researching is

William E Roberts Rhiwen

Newspaper reports state that he fell on 27th August 1916.

RWF Reg Records Roll of Honour gives 1st Battalion Pte 40175 W E Roberts KIA 27/8/16 b Llanddeiniolen

CWGC does not identify any W E Roberts ( or E W or E or W ) for this date.Neither does it identify Pte40175 W E Roberts ( that I can see!)

So,before I contact CWGC, could a Pal tell me what's on SDGW.

Names in the address field could include Rhiwen ( house), Ebenezer (village), Llanddeiniolen (parish),Cwm y Glo (RSO) and Carnarvonshire

Thanks for the reply.

I am confident that he is the right man.

I've done some more research on the CWGC. He's there with the date 27/8/1918. Possibly a typo?

Am I right in saying that the info you gave was from his MIC so that I can quote it?

Just a quick note to bear in mind

Both the CWGC and the CD version of SDGW are prone to errors from time to time. When these great and worthy projects were undertaken, I believe the information was mostly scanned - therefore the software sometimes makes a few mistakes in it's recognition. Somewhat like the London Gazette . . . but that is another story . . . .

I always find it best to double check with the hard copy of the SDGW book when in doubt.

Point taken.

During my searching of the archives of this forum for RWF mentions I came across a post of your refering to your research and database. Can I contact you by PM? If so it'll be tomorrow as I'm off out in a bit.
