Remembered Today:

Can’t find Seaman Roodhouse

Tony Lund

Recommended Posts

I am completely unable to find this man:-

Seaman Arthur Roodhouse

Joined a mine sweeper in October 1916. Thirty-three year old son of Mrs Roodhouse of Sudehill, New Mill. Drowned around May? 1918. Worked at Moorbrook Mills and was an accomplished piano player.

Holmfirth and New Mill War Memorial: Fulstone section.

Also I cannot get past the first page of names on any search, although it is possible it might be my computer, but I can’t see how.

Any Information on the Seaman would be welcome.

Thanks,

Tony.

Hi Tony,

There is something recorded at the NA:-

Name Roodhouse, Arthur

Official Number: J60202

Place of Birth: Huddersfield, Yorkshire

04 October 1886 ADM 188/767

According to the CWGC there is no-one of this name recorded.

This is the right man alright, the Arthur Rockhouse could be a misspelt name, although the date of death seems about right. I will get the NA information, it should say that he was Discharged Dead, with a date, that might help. I would have thought he would be on the register under his own name though, unless maybe someone did not notice a mistake at the time, or maybe that is not him. I shall see if I can get some more information from the local newspapers.

Many thanks,

Tony.

I think it must be something like that, I am also having trouble with the National Archives and the hotmail and some other websites. How to fix it is the question? I recently changed from Cabletel to Bulldog and I don’t think the computer likes it, do I have to change back to get everything working again?

I also can’t use the forum fast reply or post a link to a website anymore.

Tony.
