AndyHollinger Posted 6 February , 2006 Share Posted 6 February , 2006 I'm about 3/4 through with this book and find it fascinating. I can't tell if the author loves Churchills or hates him ... which is probably a good sign. I am amazed at Churchill the politican, the author and the historian ... the whole book is a double helix of seeing the past through the eyes of the early 1950s and comparing the actual record with the historical book(s) The Second World War. Staffsyeoman Posted 7 February , 2006 Share Posted 7 February , 2006 Masterpiece. Best history book I read last year. There are sentences which you just know took a week's work at Kew, and it reads like a page turner. Underlined Chruchill's 'brass neck' in tweaking all the rules, laws - and the taxman - (and free holidays off the publishers!) to get the books done. And at least it restores credit to the people who did the real legwork behind the scenes.
