Hello

My grandfather was called Bdr / Cpl Charles Muss Manning and he was in C battery 117 BGD from 1914 - 1920. They were sent out to Salonica with 26th Div and later to Egypt and Palestine with 74th Div and then back to Belgium in time for the 2nd battle of the Somme.

I have his service record but any documented information about the Middle East theatre of WW1 seems hard for a novice like me to find. Can anyone help with advice? Are there any photographs available from members, (or already posted/in other archives) of either the units mentioned above or the battlefields?

CMM's service history was:

117 BGD C battery 26th Div. Sept 1914 - June 1916.

Then 74th Div Aug 1917 - to the end of hostilities.

He returned to Sheffield with stories of various escapades in Palestine. After the war he worked in the steel foundries and also had several bar-room run-ins with the infamous 'Moony gang' but I am pleased to say that Charlie came off the better.

All help appreciated.
