I would like to find the position (with use of a trench Map if possible) of the 1st Battalion, Border Regt. on 1/7/16. I understand they were mixed in with the SWB's to attack Y Ravine, forming up in St Johns Road;a sunken road from Auchonvillers to Hamel?with Thurles Dump on their left:objective Beaucourt trenches. I am visiting soon and would like to plan a walk.

The area where they attacked was from in front of where the Caribou is located in the Newfoundland Park in the direction of Y Ravine. The 2nd South Wales Borderers were in the first wave, with 1st Borders coming up behind. According to 'Military Operations 1916 Volume 1' they ceased to exist in the space of 30 minutes, most of their troops never getting further then the British wire. You could view their entire battlefield that day from the viewing platform below the Caribou.
